Can I ride an eBike in a PA State Parks and Forests?Absolutely... read the requirements below. Our eBikes meet these requirements and rules. PENNSYLVANIA, USA — After several months and hundreds of public comments, the state has finalized its rules for e-bikes in state parks and forests. An e-bike is a bicycle equipped with an electric motor that assists the rider when pedaling. Effective immediately, the guidelines state that e-bikes on DCNR land: Weigh no more than 100 pounds; Do not exceed 20 miles-per-hour using the motor; Have motors that do not exceed 750 watts; and Have fully functional, operable pedals. E-bike riders are asked to observe safe speeds and advised speed limits along trails, and e-bike operators should never use the electric assistance to exceed 20 miles per hour while using the electric motor. All users should travel at safe speeds. The policy allows e-bikes to be used on DCNR-managed trails where traditional bikes are allowed. State forest roads and trails that are not open to biking which would also prohibit e-bikes include: Natural areas; Designated hiking trails (blazed with yellow or orange); and Trails or roads specifically marked closed to biking.

Can I ride an eBike in the Snow?In the recent years, more and more people have taken to electric bicycles (eBikes) as a fun and convenient means of commuting and recreation. But what about using an eBike in the winter - on snowy roads and trails? Is it safe or even practical to use eBikes in the snow? The good news is that, as long as you take a few safety precautions, eBiking in the snow can be a safe and enjoyable experience. In fact, there are now several types of electric eBiks that you can use in the snow To start, be sure to pay attention to the type of tires you equip your eBike with. Fat tires are usually the best choice for snowy terrain, as their wider surface area will provide better grip and stability when riding on snow and ice. If you don't necessarily need to go cross-country, choose a tire with a smaller tread pattern, as the smaller grooves will help to keep the tire from slipping on the snow. Additionally, make sure to keep your tires inflated to the appropriate pressure; if you want added safety, you may wish to consider using studded tires for winter riding. Beyond the tires, you'll also want to be aware of a few other factors when eBiking in the snow. For example, since snow and ice can accumulate on the motors and other parts of your eBike, it's important to waterproof as much as possible. As with any bicycle, brakes are critical to safety; inspect your brakes to make sure they're functioning properly, and make sure that your bike is fitted with winter-specific brake pads.
